October 13, London – UK venture capital firms raised $6.9 billion across 31 new funds in the third quarter of 2026, the strongest fundraising quarter on record and more than four times the quarterly average of the past two years, according to new analysis from HSBC Innovation Banking UK and Dealroom.

The record quarter comes as UK startups and scaleups attracted $6.1 billion in venture capital investment, maintaining the UK’s position as Europe’s leading venture market.

Fundraising was driven by established venture managers across several major fund raises. Index Ventures closed three new funds worth a combined $3.5 billion across seed, venture and growth strategies. Highland Europe raised €1.1 billion for its sixth growth fund, and QuantumLight raised $500 million for its second fund, while Crane Venture Partners raised $484 million across four new funds.

Together, the 31 funds closed during the quarter represent a substantial pool of new capital available to back the next generation of startups and scaleups.

Late-stage rounds drive UK venture investment

Late-stage businesses accounted for most of the capital raised during the quarter, attracting $3.5 billion, equivalent to 58% of total UK venture investment.

Major rounds included CityFibre’s $1.2 billion raise, FNZ’s $450 million round and OLIX’s $312 million funding. Breakout-stage companies raised a further $1.9 billion, while early-stage businesses attracted $740 million.

Fintech and health remained among the UK’s most active venture sectors, recording 51 and 62 funding rounds respectively during the quarter.

Semiconductor startups raised $497 million during the quarter, taking total investment in the sector to $1.6 billion in 2026 and already surpassing the previous full-year record of $1.3 billion set in 2025. Almost half of all UK semiconductor funding since 2010 has now been raised in the past two years, underlining the recent acceleration in investment in the sector.

Domestic investors also played a prominent role in UK deal activity, with nine of the ten most active investors in UK funding rounds during Q3 headquartered in the UK. Together, those investors participated in 60 deals during the quarter.

UK maintains European venture leadership

The UK continued to lead Europe for venture capital investment during Q3, attracting 25% of all investment across the continent. Across the first nine months of 2026, UK startups and scaleups have raised $23.3 billion, representing 35% of European venture capital and more than twice the amount attracted by either Germany or France.

Emily Turner, CEO, HSBC Innovation Banking UK, said: “The record level of venture fundraising this quarter is an encouraging signal for the UK innovation ecosystem. Capital raised today gives investors greater firepower to back ambitious businesses through their next stages of growth, and the breadth of new funds being raised shows continued confidence in the opportunities ahead.

“Investment will always fluctuate from quarter to quarter, but the UK continues to have the ingredients that matter: ambitious founders, world-class research and experienced investors with capital to deploy. Maintaining that momentum will be critical to helping more promising companies build and scale from the UK.”
