This is when one company buys another and thus takes control of the company being acquired. There are numerous different reasons for acquisitions to occur, there are hostile takeovers that are not welcomed and acquisitions that are desperately needed. The reasons for these can be very similar to Mergers but can be viewed as more predatory and aggressive growth tactics.
